IMERSA Summit 2019 was a great success

Neither rain, nor snow, nor the freezing temps of the polar vortex kept the 2019 IMERSA Summit from happening in February at the Center of Science and Industry in Columbus, Ohio. Nearly 140 women and men, immersive pioneers all, gathered together for four days of sessions and camaraderie.
We shared, we enjoyed invited talks, keynote presentations, fulldome videos and live performances, and had plenty of time to mix and mingle. This year’s meeting, with the theme “Connecting our Worlds of Immersion”, also celebrated the 10th birthday of IMERSA. The group, which began in the mid 2000s through “birds of a feather” meetups and the first domefests, officially formed in July 2008. At the 2019 Summit, our anniversary luncheon heralded a decade of success for the organization.
The 2019 summit brought people from around the world to share their work and philosophies about fulldome, VR, and other immersive experiences. We planned a day and a half of sessions on the role of music and sound in storytelling, and introduced many attendees to the state-of-the-art audio practices. We also featured sessions dedicated to the art of composing music for fulldome, as well as the challenges and rewards of good soundtracks.
The 2019 IMERSA Summit is only a few days in the past, but already we’re getting some very good and delighted feedback from attendees. Our aim is always to give immersive producers, users, and performers a fertile place to meet, greet, and discuss our common interests.
This year we wove a successful program around ample time for socializing, with the common threads of storytelling, production challenges, and the variety of 40+ fulldome highlights and shows.
