Douglas H. Trumbull

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Douglas H. Trumbull, visionary special effects producer and legendary film director, at the age of 79. 

Mr. Trumbull was the recipient of an IMERSA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018 and was more recently featured in our IMERSA Master Class virtual meeting in February, 2021.

Doug was a vocal proponent of immersive experiences. He began his exploration of immersive presentations with the production of "To the Moon and Beyond" for the 1964 World's Fair to movies and continued it in such movies as "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Brainstorm," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," the original "Blade Runner", "Star Trek: The Motion Picture", and many others. In recent years,

Doug did a great deal of research and work on high-frame-rate digital imagery for immersive systems projecting 3D. We salute the memory of Douglas H. Trumbull and his many achievements that inspired so many moviegoers over the years.
