Nordic Film Days
The Nordic Film Days Lübeck, first organized by the Lübeck Film Club in 1956 and taken over by the city in 1971, is one of the most traditional film festivals in the world. They are the only festival in Germany and Europe that specializes entirely in presenting films from the north and northeast of the continent.
Every year at the beginning of November, the latest feature films, documentaries and short films from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden are presented here for five days. There is also an extensive children's and youth film program, a section for Nordic and Baltic series as well as the immersive media/360° or VR films series and a retrospective dedicated to important eras, certain genres or important personalities in film history. The Filmforum section takes a look at filmmaking in Northern Germany (Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg). There are also seminars, discussions, roundtables and special events such as concerts, as well as industry and industry events, the “Lübeck Meetings”.
The Nordic Film Days Lübeck is a large audience festival and an important meeting point for the film industry from Germany and the north and northeast of Europe. Many of the directors who presented their debut works in Lübeck have now achieved world fame - such as Bille August, Lasse Hallström, Aki Kaurismäki, Fridrik Thór Fridriksson and Sara Johnsen.
The film festival is organized by the Hanseatic city of Lübeck in collaboration with the film institutes and film foundations of Scandinavia as well as the film institutions of the Baltic countries. The ambassadors of the Nordic countries in Germany are the patrons. The festival's honorary president is the Norwegian actress and director Liv Ullmann. Media partners are Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) and Lübecker Nachrichten (LN).
Immersion 360°
The Immersion 360° section presents current work in the areas of fulldome video production, 360-degree film (produced for VR headsets or virtual tours), virtual or expanded reality and interactive 3D experiences. Under the motto “Go in instead of look at,” immersive media is increasingly becoming the new credo of art, especially in the area of moving images. Special architectures and high-tech environments such as the InfinityDome, a large mobile full dome with an external diameter of almost 20 meters and a 360-degree projector, make these new situations and experiences accessible to a wide audience. An innovative digital format with great future and development potential. We retrospectively and currently present artists with roots in the Nordic region who are dedicated to developing their own immersive forms of audiovisual experience.
